Overview of the job

This is a non-operational prisoner facing job based in an establishment.

Summary

The job holder will deliver a range of tasks including providing service delivery on a specialist IPP unit, maintaining systems and processes related to this, as well as engaging IPP residents more widely across the establishment. This is a non-operational job with no line management responsibilities.

Responsibilities, Activities and Duties

The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:

  • Establish and deliver an induction process, with the involvement of the psychologist, for prisoners entering the establishment who fit criteria for the unit.
  • Assist in establishing a wider strategy for prisoners in the establishment, including identifying prisoner representatives, holding regular meetings with them, establishing a network of support across the establishment.
  • Maintain and manage a referral process for the unit.
  • Work with wing staff to engage prisoners moving onto the unit and assist in discussing the wing ethos and compact with them, and assist in setting relevant and meaningful objectives for residents to be working on whilst on the unit.
  • Encourage and support prisoners to participate in education, group sessions and workshops as defined with the wing compact and/or their sentence plan and develop strategies to assist residents in overcoming concerns about engaging.
  • With the Psychologist, prepare for and deliver group based sessions to prisoners on the unit (this may include psycho-educational/skills based groups as well as interest groups). Wing staff will also be involved in this.
  • Maintain electronic systems regarding prisoners’ involvement in the unit including meetings and session attendance and progress on goals. This will include making P‑NOMIS entries as well as maintaining local excel spreadsheets.
  • Liaise with other departments and agencies to gather and exchange information relating to prisoners’ progress.
  • Attend prisoners meetings, staff meetings, and supervision, training and strategy meetings.
  • Work closely with the unit staff and the Psychologist to ensure that high standards of delivery are maintained across the unit.
  • Highlight any prisoners who give cause for significant concern, by way of their observed behaviour, to the relevant function e.g. safer custody, security, IRMT, programmes etc.
  • Contribute and attend Multi‑agency Public Protection Arrangement (MAPPA) boards, IPP Progression Panels, Sentence Planning Reviews and Parole Boards as required.
