1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant Complex Behaviours

Do you have experience in youth work or supporting young people with complex needs? Are you looking for a 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant role within a PRU, alternative provision, or SEND school?

We are working with a leading Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and several SEND/ALN schools to recruit confident, resilient, and committed 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils aged with complex behaviours and additional learning needs.

This role is ideal for candidates with experience in youth work, SEMH, challenging behaviour, alternative provision, or SEND settings. If you are calm under pressure, consistent with boundaries, and passionate about making a real difference, this is an excellent opportunity.

About the Role 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant

As a 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with an individual pupil, supporting them with:

  • SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs)
  • EBD (Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties)
  • ADHD / ADD
  • Complex and challenging behaviour, including escalation
Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day
  • Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour
  • Supporting learning, emotional regulation, and personalised programmes
  • Building a positive, trusting relationship through consistency
  • Maintaining a calm, structured, and safe learning environment
Essential Requirements

To apply for this 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant role, you must have:

  • At least 6 months experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour
  • Experience in PRUs, SEND settings, youth work, or alternative education
  • Strong written and spoken English
  • Right to work in the UK
  • A 5-year employment history with gaps explained
  • Two years of references, including one from education or care
  • Enhanced DBS (and overseas police checks if applicable)
  • A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
