Our products can be found literally everywhere in society. This means that we are an important part of the everyday lives of people and companies around the world.

In September of 2024, SKF announced the separation of its Automotive business, with the objective to build two world‑leading companies. The role you are applying for will be a part of the new company created from the Automotive business. This means you will have the opportunity to be a part of shaping a new company aimed at meeting the needs of the transforming global automotive market.

Would you like to join us in shaping the future of motion?

Senior Mechatronic Product Development Engineer – Automotive Business

As a Senior Mechatronic Product Development Engineer, you will join the R&D Driveline Engineering organization, within the Powertrain Engineering team. In this role you will contribute to developing the next generation of products and knowledge for electrified automotive powertrains. You will also support daily business needs with mechanical and electronic product expertise, building on SKF’s current conductive brush ring and insulating solutions portfolio. This position allows you to work in a multidisciplinary and dynamic environment in close collaboration with teams across the full value chain, from suppliers to customers. Finally, you will translate market trends and customer needs into new, efficient, sustainable, and cost‑effective solutions.

Key responsibilities
  • Define, develop, and maintain the product’s technical data, continuously updating your technical knowledge to deliver value to SKF customers. You will ensure smooth handling of customer requests by defining application‑specific offerings, providing product specifications, and proposing innovative solutions when needed.
  • Plan, drive, execute and report product development activities as part of NMO projects and/or customer enquiries, for both mechanical and mechatronic products.
  • Perform requirements review, specification definition, design activities, design reviews, DFMEA, simulations, prototype definition and validation to ensure robustness of the product and perfect fit with application specific requirements.
  • Capitalize the lessons learned of automotive EV/PWT applications to improve knowledge and update design rules with a specific focus on electric motor current leakage.
  • Use your electronic and electrical expertise to contribute to customer enquiries by providing solid product and technical insights. Support Sales and Application Engineers by translating customer sub‑system application requirements into clear product requirements.
  • Drive design and validate activities for ICR and engineering changes.
  • Work daily with teams across the full value chain (e.g., application engineering, competence center, manufacturing, purchasing, other product development teams, RTD, testing labs, GBI/GMC labs) to develop new materials, technologies, simulation tools, processes and to support supplier selection, all with the aim of optimizing our products.
Requirements
  • Engineering Master’s degree in Mechatronics or successful experience in this field. An experience or strong interest in Automotive and EV applications is a plus.
  • Some years’ experience in product development, or as a technical leader, or in a similar R&D environment (NMO and ETO process).
  • Good knowledge of electromechanical technology and electric motors (types, characteristics, drivers) used in high‑power‑density and integrated applications such as EV, as well as knowledge of e‑motors current leakage (EMD, Circulating, …).
  • Knowledge about power electronics inverters and software drivers for motor control will enable customer interactions at system level and will be considered meritorious.
  • Knowledge and experience in digital modeling and simulation tools (Matlab) will be considered a plus.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Some knowledge of French is a plus.
You will enjoy working here if you
  • Are customer focused and have a proactive, result‑oriented attitude.
  • Have an innovative mindset, hands‑on approach, are resilient to dynamics and a complex business environment, together with a risk‑mitigation culture.
  • Show a broad technical interest and curiosity, both in Mechanical and Electrical fields.
  • Like working in an international environment and have good communication skills to maintain positive and open collaboration with all stakeholders.
