Mission

Laboratory

The ATOMIC team «Advanced Therapy in radiation Oncology and Molecular Imaging Characterization» (UMR9029/U1353/Université Paris Saclay) specializes in developing new therapeutic strategies aimed at increasing the therapeutic index of radiotherapy. In line with the institutional FRATHEA project, the team has been actively involved in the development of FLASH radiotherapy (Favaudon, Science Translational Medicine, 2014), which reduces radiation-induced toxicities while maintaining anti-tumor efficacy comparable to that of conventional radiotherapy (known as the FLASH effect). In close collaboration with radiation oncologists and medical physicists of the team, the project aims to conduct preclinical studies to validate the new FLASH-VHEE irradiator developed at Institut Curie, specially in the frame of the FRATHEA project [1].

Missions

  • Design and implementation of in vivo experiments: conduct experimental protocols on animal models in compliance with ethical and regulatory standards; prepare and submit project authorization applications to the ethics committee.
  • Animal care and monitoring: perform injections (IP, IV), sample collection, weighing, substance administration, anesthesia, and euthanasia; monitor clinical parameters and ensure animal welfare throughout the experiments.
  • Biological analyses and sample processing: participate in the implementation of biological analyses (genotyping, histological sections, immunofluorescence), in collaboration with other team members.
  • Data analysis: collect, organize, and analyze experimental data; document results and experimental reports in the electronic lab notebook.
