Personal Care Home Medical Director - Long Term Care/Continuing Care Program - (1806)

Location: Southern Health-Santé Sud (SH-SS), exact location to be determined.

Program: Long Term Care / Continuing Care

Employment Type: Part-Time Term 0.1 FTE

Standard term: 12 months for first appointment with offer of renewal to be determined by the VP – Medical Services & Chief Medical Officer.

Start Date: As soon as possible

About the Role

The Personal Care Home Medical Director assists the VP – Medical Services & Chief Medical Officer as appropriate in carrying out the responsibilities as set out in the provincial medical staff by-laws as it relates to medical oversight for the PCHs. The PCH Medical Director is responsible for ensuring models and standards of care are communicated to all medical staff involved with PCH medicine across the region, and monitoring adherence, including supporting the implementation of a standardized provincial Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) program for PCHs across all licensed PCHs in the region.

  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight for medical care within the PCH
  • Collaborate with nursing and allied health staff to support best practices in geriatric and palliative care
  • Develop and implement medical policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and care conferences
  • Ensure compliance with provincial standards and regulatory requirements
  • Support infection prevention and control strategies
  • Facilitate transitions of care between hospital, community, and long-term care settings
  • Serve as a liaison with regional health authorities and external providers
Education/Certification/Knowledge Required
  • A medical practitioner, qualified to practice medicine in the Province of Manitoba and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.
  • Active certification with the College of Family Physicians (CCFP) or equivalent.
  • An active member of the medical staff in Southern Health-Santé Sud and attending in one or more personal care home located within the SDO.
  • Dedicated to the care of the elderly.
  • Understanding of infection & prevention control measures and willingness to consult and work in collaboration with IPC medical specialists, medical officers of health, and IPC practitioners.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Administrative/leadership credentials (experience, certification as a physician Leader).
  • Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with all members of the health care team and external partners and agencies.
  • Understanding of current evidenced-based trends in PCH.
  • Evidence of a high understanding and evidence of emotional intelligence.

  • Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums.

  • Good work and attendance record.
  • Completes and maintains a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Child Abuse Registry Check, as appropriate.
  • Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00.
Work Conditions
  • Will be required to travel to other regional facilities and communities as the position duties require.
Compensation

This position represents a 0.1 Full-Time Equivalent FTE and will be compensated according to the Physician Services Agreement.
