The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a creative, outstanding, and experienced candidate to serve asRegional Communications Officer to cover a maternity leave for our hosted organization, the Wyss Academy forNature.
The Wyss Academy for Nature (WA) at the University of Bern’s vision is to achieve a just and sustainable world inwhich nature conservation and human wellbeing reinforce each other. We are a place of innovation, where research,business, policymakers, practitioners and communities come together to co-design solutions for sustainable futures.Our goal is to research, develop, and implement innovative solutions to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss, landuse change and rising inequality by connecting technical, social, economic, institutional and policy innovations at theinterface of nature and people. The WA comprises four regional hubs, one each in Europe (Switzerland), SouthAmerica (Peru), East Africa (Kenya), and Southeast Asia (Laos).
About the role: The selected candidate will support the increase of the Wyss Academy outreach in South America.Regional Communications Officer will be based in Puerto Maldonado, Peru and report to the Regional StewardshipHub South America Director.
Key responsibilities:
• Support the development and implementation of the Wyss Academy’s communications and outreachstrategy in South America.
• Support and implement communication activities and campaigns in coordination with the GlobalCommunications Team.
• Work with partner organizations, our Learning, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and Programme Managerin the early identification of key communication messages to later be used for outreach activities.
• In coordination with the Learning, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, conduct interviews with projectbeneficiaries and field partners to gather information useful for communications and outreach materials.
• Overseeing the strategic conception, creation, and editing of publications and other forms of communicationin various channels in coordination with the Wyss Academy team in Peru. (digital and print).
• Contextualize existing templates and standard tools/materials (e.g. case studies, regular project briefs,standard presentations, etc.) for outreach and communications purposes according to the needs/specifics inthe region.
• Oversee planning, scheduling, logistics and execution of local, national and international events.
• Guide the communications activities of the SAM Hub team to be align with the Wyss Academy’scommunications and outreach strategy (including science communication).
• Coordinate the tracking and cataloguing of media coverage of the Wyss Academy’s activities in the regionand keep an up-to-date media contact list.
• Ensure compliance for the external use of all communication related elements with our branding guidelines.
• Comply with applicable health and safety CIP policies and procedures
What are we looking for?
• Master's Degree or BA with equivalent experience in Communications, journalism or other related fields,ideally related to the relationship of nature and people or sustainability.
• 8 years of professional experience in similar positions in an international and cross-cultural workenvironment, preferably within a scientific environment.
• Experience working across disciplines, cultures and with stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience with stakeholder engagement and policy dialogue is an asset.
• Experience with knowledge management and learning processes is an asset.
• Working knowledge on event organization and management is an asset.
• Studies on communication for development; strategic communication; corporate/institutionalcommunications or scientific communications.
• Knowledge of scientific communication is an asset.
• Working knowledge of design software and multimedia production is an asset.
• Advance skills in information and computer technology (ICT, including CRM).
• Comprehensive knowledge, experience and understanding of communication as an integral part of societaltransformation.
• Competences: Human-centered mindset, systems thinker, outstanding listener and communicator, impact-driven, proactive and creative. Combination of strong teamworking skills and independence.
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in Spanish and English both written and oral.
