The Medical Records Technician (ROI) will support Release of Information operations at the Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System. Responsibilities include processing requests for Protected Health Information (PHI), validating authorization, retrieving and releasing records, logging requests, and maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA, the Privacy Act, VHA policies, and federal guidelines.
Technicians must ensure accuracy in release of information and adherence to national standards, including those established by CMS, AMA CPT, ICD‑10‑CM/PCS, and all applicable VHA/VA policies and credentialing requirements (e.g., CPC, CCS, CCS‑P). The technician must safeguard PHI at all times, interact professionally with veterans, legal representatives, and agencies, and maintain high customer service and turnaround standards.
