Overview

General Summary: Installs and repairs systems, apparatus and components of industrial machinery and equipment. A multi-skilled position, with mechanical maintenance making up the primary essential duties.

Note: This description reflects a maintenance role with emphasis on mechanical duties and safety compliance.

Duties

include the following: (Other duties may be assigned, including but not limited to cross training & housekeeping. Responsibilities also include attention to safety according to all safety rules.)

  • Confers with maintenance team leader to determine priorities for maintenance projects.
  • Diagnoses mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble, using proper tools, methods and/or testing equipment.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts; repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by centering, aligning, balancing or modifying equipment as needed.
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices as instructed, for project support.
  • Performs preventive maintenance by lubricating and cleaning parts, replacing components, and following other PM procedures; changes out tooling
  • Starts devices to test their performance; sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Initiates work orders for corrective maintenance tasks.

Actively promotes and participates in all continuous improvement and safety initiatives; actively pursues all training opportunities and applies them to subsequent maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; minimum of one year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills: Mechanical schematic and blueprint reading; read and interpret safety instructions, operating instructions and general work instructions. Ability to perform multi-skilled tasks including basic electrical repair and wiring.

Other Qualifications:

Knowledge of welding processes; experience as a welder is ; knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
