Offer Description

Founded in 1968, the University of Limoges is a friendly, human-scale institution that educates more than 16,000 students and employs over 1,800 permanent staff members. At the heart of Europe, it is a major multidisciplinary center of higher education, offering one of the most stimulating environments for scientific development. Open to the world, it is a place teaming of interaction, with a diverse student population, efficient support structures, and programs based on top-level research leading to clearly identified career opportunities. Its scientific excellence, supported by cutting‑edge laboratories and large‑scale partnerships, helps to shape the world of tomorrow. XLIM UMR CNRS 7252 is a center of expertise focused on electronics and high‑frequency technologies, optics and photonics, mathematics, computer science and imaging, and CAD, in the fields of space, telecommunication networks, secure environments, bioengineering, new materials, energy, and imaging. XLIM is a multidisciplinary research institute located on several sites: in Limoges at the Faculty of Science and Technology, ENSIL-ENSci Ester Technopole, on the Brive University Campus, and in Poitiers. XLIM brings together more than 440 people, including university faculty members, CNRS researchers, engineers, technicians, post‑doctoral researchers, PhD students, and administrative staff. The project is part of the regional POOCA project (“Organic Photovoltaics for Communicating and Autonomous Objects”) led by XLIM, which strengthens the experimental component of the ANR project OPV4COM (“Organic photovoltaics for sustainable indoor IoT by simultaneous energy harvesting and optical wireless data reception”), accepted under the 2024 generic call for proposals (AAPG 2024), also coordinated by the XLIM laboratory. The project aims to assess and validate the use of printed organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices as energy harvesters from indoor ambient light and as data receivers in optical wireless communication (OWC) scenarios, providing next generation Internet of Things (IoT) devices with efficient and sustainable operation and thereby addressing the issue of limited battery capacity.

Responsibilities
  • The main responsibility will be to implement the experimental testbed already developed at XLIM, used to validate the OPV devices identified during the project and to make it sufficiently reliable so that measurements are reproducible, both in a controlled environment and in an environment representative of real use scenarios.
  • This will involve working with software defined radio equipment based on Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) platforms, in order to provide software flexibility for the modulation and coding techniques used to evaluate performance in terms of energy harvesting and data transmission in a fully controlled environment. It will also involve developing lighter devices that can be integrated on lower cost boards, in order to build a demonstrator of a system closer to a real world environment; for example, an OPV receiver based on an optical wake‑up rather than a radio‑based one for a node in an indoor environment will serve as a proof of concept.
  • In addition to the software programming aspect, integrating specific front‑ends with a physically compatible interface for optical transmission and OPV reception will be part of the recruited person’s tasks, requiring a background in optoelectronics.
Qualifications
  • PhD or equivalent in the field of information science and engineering.
  • Experience in programming of digital and software defined radio devices and carrying out experimental measurements.
  • Good teamwork abilities.
  • Good organization and facility to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Good communication skills in English.
Specific Requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of wireless communications.
  • Strong programming skills and experience (Matlab, C, Python) and with embedded systems.
  • Skills in optoelectronics.
