The role requires fluency in German and English, with strong experience in commercial law and IT contracts. Job Description

The bilingual (fluency in German & English) Legal Counsel will assist Head of Legal EMEA & APAC in supporting internal clients as well as external stakeholders for any legal matters. The role will provide effective legal advice, counsel, and support to the organization. This role will work with US colleagues.

Preferred location is Frankfurt, Germany however any EMEA location will be considered if open to occasional travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Good knowledge and experience of local commercial laws

  • Reviewing and negotiating IT/SaaS commercial contracts and service level agreements including vendor contracts

  • Undertake research on legal topics and provide general legal advice where requested from time to time

  • Assisting in the development of legal templates and best practices

  • Engaging with legal counterparts of our vendors and clients

  • Ensuring compliance within the agreement terms to company policies and guidelines.

  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills

  • Preparing contract paperwork; advising sales of contractual rights and obligations mitigating contractual and channel partner program risks; compiling and analyzing data; maintaining historical information

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills – written and verbal

  • Ability to communicate with others in the cross functional teams and with customers

  • Detail oriented with strong organisational skills

  • Balancing competing priorities of constituencies as compared to business needs

Knowledge & Experience
  • Law degree with 2-4 years PQE, including relevant experience in IT law, Privacy Law, and general contracting law (as detailed below)

  • Admitted to Local Bar with current license to practice law

  • Contract Negotiations - Develop, assess and negotiate contracts on service, terms & conditions, NDAs and commercial documents

  • Knowledge of legal issues affecting software companies globally required, such as data privacy issues, Cloud and SaaS, AI and IP protection

  • HR/Employment law – not a requirement but highly preferred

  • Fluency in German & English is a must.

  • Experience of working both in private practice and in-house at a technology company

  • PC proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
