Head of Iberian Power Trading (Proprietary)
Location : Spain (100% remote)
A well-capitalized, privately held European trading group is continuing its strategic growth in energy markets and is seeking a senior proprietary trader to launch and lead its Iberian Power Trading desk. The group is active across power, gas, and carbon , with trading, structuring, and risk management operations based in Switzerland.
The company has deep industrial roots and a strong financial foundation, having expanded into energy with the same entrepreneurial drive that has powered its growth in metals and commodities. Its energy division has developed from an initial focus on the Italian gas market to a multi-market presence in power trading (spot and curve), natural gas, and environmental products (EUAs & VERs) .
About the Role
This is a senior, entrepreneurial mandate to build and lead the Iberian proprietary power trading business from the ground up. We are looking for someone with a track record in non-asset-backed trading in the Spanish and Portuguese power markets (experience through the curve is appreciated). You will collaborate with the team in Switzerland during the setup phase but are expected to operate independently and be fully accountable for the desk’s performance .
The ideal candidate is comfortable producing results alone , capable of developing strategies, tools, and processes to run a profitable desk, and eager to shape a new line of business within a flexible, performance-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Set up and manage proprietary trading strategies for Iberian power markets (Spain & Portugal)
- Focus on spot and intraday trading; curve trading experience is a plus
- Leverage internal analytics and collaborate with the Lugano trading team to support ramp-up
- Take full ownership of risk, P&L, and strategy development
- Support the eventual build-out of the Iberian trading team, if and when needed
- 3+ years of demonstrable success in proprietary, non-asset-backed power trading in Iberia
- Strong knowledge of market fundamentals, regulatory frameworks, and trading tools
- Independent, self-driven, and comfortable operating with autonomy
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for building new business lines
- Willingness to be based in Spain
