About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (m/f/d) with strong experience in Python and AWS to join our growing engineering team.

This role is for engineers who enjoy building production‑grade systems not just experiments. Our work spans from high‑frequency IoT messaging platforms to agentic solutions that augment and automate real‑world processes often operating under real constraints and evolving requirements. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams in an international environment taking end‑to‑end ownership of the systems you help design and build. An important part of this role is openness to integration‑heavy environments including working with services on the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP).

Prior SAP experience is not required but curiosity, flexibility and a willingness to engage with the ecosystem and its principles (such as Clean Core) are essential.

The ideal candidate brings technical depth, strong system thinking and a proactive mindset aligned with Syntaxs culture of excellence.

What you will do

Be part of a small dedicated squad within the Global Business Innovation team building new solutions and evolving existing ones across IoT platforms and agentic services.

Design and build integrations with external platforms including services on SAP BTP and APIs within the SAP Digital Manufacturing ecosystem.

Build MCP tools and agentic solutions for both customer‑facing products and internal workflows owning their deployment operation and observability.

Improve and evolve existing systems, some legacy some new, by consolidating services, reducing complexity and strengthening tooling and observability, helping us scale quality over time.

Build and optimize serverless and container‑based workloads on AWS, making pragmatic technology choices based on clear trade‑offs and real constraints.

Collaborate closely with engineers, product owners and delivery managers to scope work, explore trade‑offs and find the simplest path to something great.

Contribute to a strong engineering culture through code reviews, knowledge sharing and leading by example.

Troubleshoot complex issues across environments and participate in root cause analysis.

Support and mentor other engineers through technical guidance and thoughtful feedback.

Helpful skills and experience

7 years of professional experience building and operating backend systems in production environments.

Strong hands‑on experience with Python and AWS. It is used occasionally to integrate with teams and services in that ecosystem but is not a primary focus of the role.

Solid experience with modern Python tooling and package management (uv poetry or conda).

Solid understanding of AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3 and ECS or EKS.

Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, microservices and distributed systems.

Experience building, deploying and operating MCP tools and agentic solutions or a strong interest in doing so in production settings.

Openness to working with SAP BTP services, building APIs that integrate with them and getting familiar with BTP Clean Core principles.

Strong system thinking and ownership mindset. You look beyond the immediate task, make informed trade‑offs and adapt decisions as constraints change.

Experience collaborating across teams to improve platforms or infrastructure by simplifying service boundaries, improving observability or evolving internal tooling.

Experience with modern AI tools, not just using them for code generation but integrating them into how you debug, document, explore ideas and reduce manual effort.

You’re clear in your thinking, generous with context and don’t wait for perfect information to get started.

Clear written and verbal communication skills in English, especially in distributed and asynchronous environments.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.

Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or AWS CDK.

Knowledge of event‑driven architectures and messaging services such as SNS, SQS or Kafka.

Familiarity with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.

Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as CloudWatch, Grafana or Prometheus.

Mandatory Requirements

• Nationality or Work Authorization: Spanish nationality or alternatively a permanent work permit/VISA for Spain.
• Language Proficiency: Advanced level of Spanish and English (both written and spoken).
