Who we are looking for

We are seeking a senior optical engineer specializing in ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLCs). The successful candidate will play a key role in Inmersia’s R&D by leading the development of custom FLC optical elements for near-eye displays and serving as a technical advisor in external projects with industry and academic partners.

What you will do

  • Design and develop FLC optical elements for near-eye displays
  • Act as an in-house technical advisor for collaboration projects with industrial and academic partners
  • Support the transition from R&D to production at scale
  • Assist the patent attorney in drafting patents for inventions developed during R&D

Technical skills required

Essential skills

  • Deep understanding of FLC materials and their electrical and optical properties
  • Experimental experience in developing FLC optical elements
  • Ability to characterize electrical and optical properties of FLC elements
  • Knowledge of FLC alignment methods, both cutting-edge and industrially established
  • Understanding of substrate materials used in FLC optical elements

Valuable additional skills

  • Experience developing custom electro-optical simulations of FLC optical elements
  • Knowledge of scalable manufacturing methods for FLC optical elements
  • Understanding of refractive and diffractive optics

Educational requirements

  • PhD in Optics or Material Science focusing on FLC optical elements, with at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Alternatively, a Master’s degree in a similar field with 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Professional proficiency in English
