A tech organization in Spain is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to develop and expand their e-commerce platform as part of a significant SAP Commerce Cloud project. The ideal candidate should have more than 5 years of experience in backend development using the Java ecosystem, with solid skills in eCommerce frameworks, microservices, and strong communication abilities. Douglas is a retail company for beauty, health and cosmetic products in 19 European countries. We are collaborating to improve their main product channel, their e-commerce, and you will work in a distributed team from our office in Málaga (Spain) with the company headquarters in Düsseldorf (Germany).

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• At least 5 years of professional experience as a Backend Engineer or in a similar role with a clear focus on the Java ecosystem.
• Solid experience in working with eCommerce applications or frameworks, preferably SAP Commerce (CCv2), alternatively Spryker, commercetools, Oracle Commerce, etc.
• Experience in designing, creating and working with micro services in complex cloud architectures (e.g., Spring Boot, Kubernetes, REST, Azure).
• Experience in working with search technologies, e.g., Solr, Elastic, is a plus.
• Experience in working with relational and non‑relational databases.
• A firm understanding and practical experience in tools and processes to ensure software quality, such as Unit Tests, TDD and Test Automation.
• Experience in working in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle, ideally including CI / CD and DevOps practices.
• Many years of experience in working with Agile Product Development processes.
• Good understanding of processes and use‑cases of transactional businesses like eCommerce.
• Experience in working with cross‑functional teams in an international environment.
• Strong communication skills and very good English skills (spoken / written).
• A mindset focused on delivery and on continuous improvement.
• Experience in training and mentoring fellow engineers to help them grow.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

• You will be involved in the (further) development and expansion of the new e‑commerce platform as part of the largest European SAP Commerce Cloud project.
• You attach great importance to a stable and scalable as well as high‑quality software – coding is the focus here.
• Independently implement quality assurance measures (e.g., code reviews) in cooperation with other team members.
• Concept and develop modern backend REST APIs within the micro‑service architecture.
• Together with product management and your team, you will understand the needs of our customers and take responsibility for technical concepts and their on‑time implementation.
• You see yourself as a consultant to the company and always coordinate closely with the other departments.
• You are in close contact with your IT colleagues and understand the requirements and needs of a high‑performance, secure and stable platform operation.
• You want to expand your knowledge, think outside the box, exchange ideas with other developers (front‑ and backend) and participate in developer meetings and other workshops.
