Job Description

An amazing opportunity has arisen for a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to join our Spanish Ophthalmology Medical Affairs team.

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a credentialed (PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent) therapeutic and disease expert who conducts scientific exchange with leaders in the external medical and scientific community. The MSL provides scientific leaders (SLs) with balanced, factual information on non-product areas of interest to the Company and responds to SLs’ scientific questions, including those related to Company products. The role is organized around four core pillars: Scientific Exchange, Research, Scientific Congress Support, and Scientific Insights.

MSLs act as a bridge between the scientific community and the Company to improve understanding of the scientific rationale and objectives for approved and in‑development programs, as well as Company‑sponsored and investigator‑initiated trials. The MSL serves as a role model for field medical colleagues, contributing to onboarding and sharing therapeutic expertise.

What you will do:
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with national and/or regional scientific leaders (SLs) to provide access to medical and scientific information on therapeutic areas of interest and Company products.
  • Conduct peer‑to‑peer scientific discussions and serve as a consistent medical contact for SLs.
  • Respond to scientific questions from SLs and route inquiries outside the MSL scope (e.g., grants) to appropriate Company resources in accordance with policies.
  • Stay current with the evolving scientific and clinical landscape within the Company's Areas of Interest (AOI).
Research
  • Support Global Clinical Trial Operations (GCTO) by identifying barriers to patient enrollment and retention, recommending study sites, and identifying potential investigators for phase II–IV clinical programs.
  • Address investigator questions and provide information about participation in Company‑sponsored clinical studies.
  • Support Scientific Affairs by clarifying the scientific rationale and goals of investigator‑sponsored research, identifying enrollment and retention barriers, and initiating scientific/data discussions with SLs and potential investigators to assess alignment with research strategies, study concepts, scientific merit, and investigator qualifications.
Scientific Congress Support
  • Prepare for and engage in scientific and medical meetings to facilitate scientific and data exchange for Company and competitor data.
  • Collect and communicate meaningful insights from congress activities.
  • Staff congress exhibit booths as required.
Scientific Insights
  • Gather feedback, data, and information during routine activities to help the Company better understand medical and scientific needs, priorities, and concerns of healthcare practitioners and patients.
Inclusive Mindset and Behavior
  • Promote and model an environment of belonging, inclusion, equity, and empowerment.
  • Lead by example as a role model for creating, leading, and retaining a diverse and inclusive workforce.
What You Bring:

In order to excel in this role, you will more than likely have:

  • A PhD, PharmD, DNP, or MD or equivalent.
  • Clinical (patient care) or research experience in assigned therapeutic area(s), with a preference for Ophthalmology.
  • The ability to conduct doctoral‑level discussions with key external stakeholders.
  • A dedication to scientific excellence with a strong focus on scientific education and dialogue.
  • A strategic orientation and excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking skills.
  • A thorough comprehension of local/regional regulatory agencies and other ethical guidelines, laws, and regulations relevant to the pharmaceutical industry and its customers.
  • The ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access).
  • A desire to contribute to an environment of belonging, engagement, equity, and empowerment by working to transform the environment, culture, and business landscape, leveraging diversity and inclusion to increase competitive advantage, ensuring accountability to drive an inclusive culture, and strengthening the foundational elements of diversity.
  • Consistent adherence to field and corporate policies, including field standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.

AND you will likely have:

  • Field‑based medical experience.
  • Clinical research experience.
  • A demonstrated record of scientific/medical publication.
