A leading quantum technology firm is seeking a PhD candidate in CVD Diamond Growth. The successful applicant will work on the synthesis and characterization of diamond materials used in quantum sensing applications. This role combines experimental research with collaboration at the Fraunhofer Institute and Technical University of Munich, providing a unique opportunity to impact the semiconductor industry. Candidates must possess a Master's degree in a relevant field, strong experimental research skills, and fluency in English.
We’re looking for a curious, ambitious, and hands‑on researcher to join us as a PhD candidate in CVD Diamond Growth. This is your chance to dive deep into the science and engineering of synthetic diamond materials that power the next generation of quantum technologies.
Over the course of your PhD, you’ll work at the intersection of materials science, plasma physics, and quantum sensing – collaborating with leading experts from the Fraunhofer Institute in Freiburg and the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
Your journey will begin in Freiburg, where you’ll master the operation and optimization of a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) system for diamond growth. Later, you’ll move to Munich to continue your research, translating scientific breakthroughs into scalable, real‑world processes.
You’ll get hands‑on experience designing and running experiments, characterizing advanced diamond materials, and contributing to high‑impact publications, patents, and prototypes that could shape the future of quantum sensing.
If you’re a physicist, materials scientist, or physical chemist with a passion for experimental work and a drive to turn ideas into reality, this PhD is your opportunity to grow at the frontier of science and technology.
Founded in 2022 as a spin‑off of TU Munich, QD leverages quantum sensors to rapidly capture three‑dimensional current maps within multi‑layer chips. Our 30‑strong team of physicists, engineers, and data scientists works side by side with major semiconductor manufacturers, helping them in chip debugging and accelerating their yield analysis. Backed by top‑tier deep‑tech investors, semiconductor experts, and strategic public programs, we have ensured long‑term stability, shifting from breakthrough to scale – and shaping the next chapter in chip testing.
