PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Inpatient Services Charge Nurse is an additional responsibility assigned to the Inpatient Services RN, for a limited period, with specific duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

The Charge Nurse ensures the provision of Acute Dialysis Services within assigned hospitals by coordinating, scheduling, and directing staff, and performing treatments as needed or directed. They are responsible for maintaining quality patient care efficiently, in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under limited supervision, performs tasks including but not limited to:

• Acts as a subject matter expert and resource for staff on the treatment floor.
• Receives no instruction on routine tasks; escalates issues to the Program Manager as necessary.
• Coordinates and schedules staff for dialysis treatments, ensuring efficient use of resources.
• Maintains and reviews scheduling tools and submits reports to the Program Manager.
• Ensures treatments are performed according to policies and regulations, with accurate documentation.
• Monitors compliance with ACES documentation daily.
• Performs Quality Assessment and Improvement audits and participates in related meetings.
• Assesses patient care needs, communicates with physicians, and implements care plan changes as directed.
• Performs treatments and oversees dialysis-related emergencies.
• Coordinates maintenance, infection control, and equipment management.
• Acts as liaison between hospital staff and the Program Manager.
• Practices cost containment and ensures policy compliance.
• Supports various projects and performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Includes desk work, patient interaction, and travel between facilities.
• Work environment typical of healthcare settings, with exposure to infectious materials.
• Requires heavy lifting, standing, bending, and assisting with patient mobility.
• Employees must pass the Ishihara Color Blindness test; accommodations considered if failed.

SUPERVISION:

• Supervised by Inpatient Services RN’s and PCT’s at assigned facilities.

EDUCATION:

• Current appropriate state licensure.
• CPR/BLS certification.
• Must meet all practice requirements in employed states.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

• Minimum 9 months nursing experience plus 3 months specialized dialysis care.
• 6 months dialysis experience in an acute setting preferred.
• Leadership skills, including quality improvement, team building, and decision-making.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
