As a Sales Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in accelerating sustainable business growth by identifying, engaging, and converting new business opportunities while strengthening relationships with existing customers. With a strong focus on business development, you will proactively target high-potential prospects across a defined region and subsector, leveraging your technical expertise and commercial insight to position our innovative fluid management solutions.

Acting as a trusted advisor, you will combine technical acumen with consultative sales strategies to deliver tailored, high-value solutions aligned with our Total Customer Solutions approach. You will manage a robust pipeline—from initial lead generation through to solution implementation—ensuring both new customer acquisition and existing account expansion.

This dynamic role involves frequent customer interaction, including on-site visits and virtual demonstrations, to highlight the value and performance of our cutting-edge technologies. Your ability to work independently, travel extensively, and adapt in a fast-paced environment will be critical to your success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • New Business Development: Identify and engage potential customers through research, networking, and industry events, promoting the full range of Watson-Marlow products.
  • Consultative selling: Use a consultative approach to guide customers through their buying journey. Research each customer to form hypotheses about their potential pain or gain, validate directly with the customer, then help scope and define the problem. Co-develop tailored solutions and implementation plans.
  • Account Management: Establish and maintain a sustainable pipeline of opportunities by growing key customers and high-growth industries within the designated sector.
  • Customer Partnering: Act as a trusted advisor for existing customers, offering technical expertise, understanding customer needs, troubleshooting issues, and providing proactive recommendations to enhance system performance.
  • Managing Sales Leads: Take ownership of sales leads and inquiries, providing tailored quotations and ensuring timely follow-ups.
  • Workload Allocation: Strategically allocate workload across EMEA support functions to free capacity for high-impact commercial initiatives.
  • Product Demonstrations: Visit customers and attend exhibitions to showcase Watson-Marlow products through on-site or virtual demonstrations, highlighting features, benefits, and applications.
  • Market Research: Research competitor, market, and industry trends; engage in ongoing professional development; share insights and best practices with global colleagues.
  • CRM Utilization: Use CRM tools to track and manage leads, ensuring follow-ups and accurate forecasts for sustainable growth.
  • Total Customer Solutions: Drive the Total Customer Solutions approach by utilizing consultative sales skills and acting as a true partner to key customers.
  • Core Values: Champion core values, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, customer focus, excellence, and respect across teams.
Skills/Experience:
  • BSc or Diploma in a relevant subject or equivalent technical experience.
  • Technical sales experience selling process capital equipment or similar services/products into industrial process customers; experience in heavy industrial, fluid process, or chemical process markets is an asset.
  • Strong commercial acumen with proven ability to build new business in a competitive B2B environment.
  • Independent working skills, including problem solving, budgeting, networking, and collaboration.
  • Ability to travel 60-70% across Eastern Germany (Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, and Thuringia).
  • Proficiency in English is essential; German language skills are also required due to customer base.
