Temporary Computing Service Operations Lead

EUMETSAT is entering an exciting and challenging phase, with multiple satellite launches scheduled over the coming years, alongside a major transformation programme to refresh and modernise its technology landscape.

The Computing Service is a key function within the IT Infrastructure and Data Division, supporting the ground segment in processing satellite data and commanding the satellites. This infrastructure is evolving to accommodate a new fleet of satellites planned for launch in the near future.

To ensure the smooth operation of the computing infrastructure supporting multiple satellite programmes, we are seeking a Computing Service Operations Lead. This role will focus on managing the resolution of anomalies in coordination with experts, and overseeing team capacity and resource allocation to ensure service continuity and responsiveness to evolving priorities.

NB: This is not a staff role. The successful candidate will be engaged through an external temp agency for the duration of the temporary contract. This role will not lead to a permanent position.

Duties
  • Leading the resolution of operational anomalies.
  • Reviewing change requests requiring compute team resources and allocating tasks, including to contractors.
  • Managing team capacity and reassigning resources as priorities evolve.

Qualifications

A university degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field).

Languages

Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.

Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience in resource management, task prioritisation, and supporting technical projects.
  • Hands‑on experience with Linux, preferably with broad technical knowledge across storage and networking.
  • Experience in anomaly management is highly desirable.
Employment Conditions

The Temporary Computing Service Operations Lead will work on a full-time basis. The role will be based at the EUMETSAT headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Remote working will not be possible.

Interviews for this position will be held in English, followed by a work‑related assessment also in English.

NB: This is NOT a staff role. The successful candidate will be employed through a temp agency for the duration of the contract. Agency employment conditions will apply. Applicants will need to have the right to work in Germany. Visa or work permit support will not be provided.

The target start date is as soon as possible and the expected duration will be 18 months.

The successful candidate will be reporting to the IT Infrastructure CSM Competence Area Manager.
