Overview
Structured Trade & Export Finance (STEF) advises on and arranges medium- to long-term bilateral and syndicated loans to finance clients’ imports, exports, and investments in both emerging and developed markets. The business collaborates with export credit agencies (ECAs), multilateral and bilateral institutions and private risk insurers (PRIs) to mitigate counterparty risks. Due to the global economy’s multi-dimensional transformation (energy, supply chains, and commodity security), the demand for ECA financing is increasing in all regions. The STEF team comprises 10 locations worldwide.
Underlying projects typically comprise investments in infrastructure and production facilities driven by commercial, political and/or social considerations, e.g. in power generation and distribution including renewables, steel, rail and road infrastructure, mining, education and healthcare as well as water infrastructure. The client universe includes corporates, financial institutions and sovereigns.
The STEF Germany Sales & Structuring Team is responsible for the markets Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Central and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Ukraine and the Community of Independent States (CIS). It is part of Deutsche Bank’s global STEF team spread across 10 locations worldwide. STEF closely cooperates with Project Finance, Structured Finance and connects with coverage units and other product pillars within Corporate Bank (CB) and the Investment Bank (IB) to enable cross-sell of risk management solutions, trade finance, agency services and other lending products. The underlying position is in the Germany, Austria, Switzerland (DACH) and Central Europe team, covering a wide variety of transactions in DACH and Central Europe as well as other markets (for example Middle East and Africa) where DACH and Central European exporters are involved.
Your key responsibilities
You take responsibility to drive our business development: Proactively drive the business development in DACH and Central Europe by identifying new business opportunities for ECA covered buyer’s credits and analyzing client requests to deliver financing proposals in alignment with STEF’s and CB’s strategic goals
You execute deals: Lead negotiation and closing of ECA and PRI covered buyer’s credits, as well as execution of complex large-scale transactions with other internal/external stakeholders, ensuring successful outcomes and fostering long-term client relationships
You calculate pricing: Accurately determine pricing structures, ensuring they comply with STEF’s profitability and financial targets
You perform country and counterparty creditworthiness analyses: Evaluate the financial stability of countries and clients, providing detailed reports to inform decision-making processes
You engage with STEF colleagues worldwide: Cooperate with team members in various locations, promoting a cohesive and productive work environment
You support initiatives increasing business efficiency: Constantly review existing processes/ approaches of doing business and contribute to strategic exercises with other STEF team members from various locations to increase efficiency
Your skills and experiences
University degree in a relevant field, ideally covering project-related finance and environmental/social aspects
10+ years in banking and finance, with proven experience in taking the lead in structuring and executing mid-/long-term Hermes/OeKB/SERV-covered buyer’s credits, including Africa
Deep knowledge in ECA processes, credit due diligence, LMA documentation, handling of Non-Financial Risk topics and ESG due diligence for ECA-backed loans
Proven client and transaction engagement in DACH, Central Europe and Africa
Fluent in German and English; additional languages (e.g. French) are a plus
Strong analytical, IT (including but not limited to MS Office), and interpersonal skills; resilient, proactive, fond of travelling and team-oriented
