The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability, reliability, and continuous improvement of Manufacturing and Laboratory Systems. This role focuses on providing expert support, maintenance, and enhancements for global systems including Maximo CMMS, Critical Manufacturing MES, Labvantage LIMS, Labelling & Artwork Management Systems and Delmia Apriso MES. This is to enable efficient production operations and rapid issue resolution. The ideal candidate combines technical troubleshooting skills with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and a commitment to delivering excellent service to business users.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver second‑line support for key manufacturing and laboratory platforms, addressing incidents, service requests, and user queries in a timely manner.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve system issues, escalating complex problems as needed.
• Perform routine system maintenance, upgrades, and patches to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Production, GQO, QA, IT) to analyze and resolve issues.
• Support System Owners with Application Delivery project activities, ensuring project timelines are met.
• Document support activities, solutions, and system modifications for traceability reporting and compliance.
• Participate in root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions for recurring issues.
• Develop or configure new or updated system functionalities.
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code for systems when required, adhering to best practices and coding standards.
• Provide training and support to users and support teams, promoting best practices and system adoption.
• Stay updated on the latest vendor software developments and recommend improvements and upgrades.
• Contribute to the testing and deployment of new system functionalities and integrations.
• Assist in task estimation, planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Apply agile methodologies and principles to manage projects and deliver value quickly and efficiently.

Key Requirements

• More than 5 years of experience in applications of IT support, with a focus on regulatory and Quality Solutions.
• Experience supporting and maintaining manufacturing or laboratory platforms.
• Proficient communication skills to align with Business Users.
• Proficient in troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving software and system issues in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and workflows.
• Familiarity with database technologies (e.g., SQL), scripting, and integration with shop‑floor equipment.
• Knowledge of ITIL (IT infrastructure Library) or similar service management frameworks is an advantage.
• Experience with software development methodologies (e.g., Agile) and version control systems (e.g., GitHub).
• Proficient in one or more programming languages relevant to MES systems (e.g., Python, Java, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript).
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to document technical solutions and provide user training.
• Team player with strong collaboration skills across technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Willingness to participate in on‑call support rotations and respond to urgent production issues when required.

Education / Qualifications

• A Bachelor's / Masters degree in Engineering, Software development, Information technology, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
• Itil 4, GMP or Database technologies is a plus.

Travel Requirements

• Position involves travel up to 10% of the time, mostly within Europe, Asia Pacific, and Americas. Most trips will include overnight travel.

• Portuguese or Spanish is a plus.

Working Conditions

• Remote / Hybrid working 2 days per week in the office driven by business requirements as Convatec has a flexible approach to office working.
