Senior Researcher Sustainable Built Environment

ReBuilt is a research project promoting the concept of a regenerative built environment, demonstrating its practical implementation. The project assesses the potential of nature-based materials to meet future construction demands and the capacity of the built environment to act as a carbon sink. Quantitative methods and scenario-based approaches are applied, complemented by four in-depth case studies in Germany, Bhutan, Indonesia, and South Africa. You will join an interdisciplinary team of over 15 researchers and collaborators.

Your mission
  • Supervise model development regarding the availability of nature-based resources and future construction material demand using geospatial data and scenario-based approaches
  • Assess carbon storage potential through increased use of forest products as long-lived construction materials
  • Support dissemination of project results, including scientific publications
  • Seek additional funding to expand Bauhaus Earth’s research portfolio and team
Your profile
  • Master’s degree or PhD in natural sciences such as environmental sciences, sustainability sciences, natural resource management, forestry, industrial ecology, geo-information, or related fields
  • At least 3-5 years of professional experience in a similar role
  • Skills in modelling and data analysis (e.g., R, Python), with knowledge of LCA, Material Flow Analysis, and scenario analysis considered beneficial
  • Experience in grant proposal writing
  • Proven track record in scientific publication and science communication
  • Strong analytical skills, strategic and interdisciplinary thinking, teamwork, and structured working approach
  • Willingness to travel domestically and abroad
  • Fluent in English with excellent written and oral communication skills; German is a plus but not required
