Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Environmental, Social & Community (ESC) Expert to lead and manage environmental, social, and community performance across complex projects. This role is critical to ensuring that projects meet international best practices, local regulations, and stakeholder expectations, while driving positive outcomes for communities and the environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of Environmental, Social, and Community (ESC) management systems, plans, and policies.
- Provide expert advice on environmental and social risk assessment, mitigation, and management throughout project lifecycles.
- Ensure compliance with national regulations, international standards (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles), and client-specific requirements.
- Engage with local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to build strong, trust-based relationships.
- Lead or oversee social impact assessments, environmental impact assessments (EIA), and baseline studies.
- Support grievance mechanisms and ensure that community feedback is effectively addressed.
- Contribute to sustainability reporting and ensure transparent communication of ESC performance.
- Mentor and develop junior ESC staff within the team or project.
- Prepare and deliver reports, presentations, and updates to senior management and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Sustainability, Community Development, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in environmental and social management, preferably in mining, infrastructure, energy, or similar sectors.
- Strong knowledge of international environmental and social standards and frameworks.
- Proven track record of working with local communities, including Indigenous groups, and managing stakeholder engagement.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in challenging environments.
- Fluent in English; additional local languages are an advantage.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
