A leading technology firm in logistics is hiring a Backend Developer in Berlin. This role involves designing and building microservices and requires proficiency in Kotlin or Java. We empower delivery drivers with optimized sequence of waypoints, ensuring an efficient delivery process and a transparent experience for consignees. With thousands of drivers depending on our solution daily, we are iteratively improving our optimization algorithms to meet the challenges of the real world.
Designing, building, and evolving microservices that power our core platform, driving projects from concept to deployment.
Partnering with our Product Owner to translate business needs into robust and maintainable technical solutions.
Collaborating with our Data Analysts to design and implement data models and event streams that feed our analytics platform, enabling data-driven decision-making.
Taking ownership of the entire service lifecycle, from developing deployment pipelines and managing infrastructure to ensuring operational excellence in production (observability, scalability, and reliability).
Championing a culture of engineering excellence by writing comprehensive, high-quality tests and promoting best practices in code and system design.
Backend Services: Kotlin, Spring Boot, Amazon ECS / Docker, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, Pulumi
Data Platform: SQL, Python, Trino/Athena, AWS Glue, Spark, Iceberg, Snowflake, Step Functions
Well-versed in backend development, ideally utilizing frameworks like Spring Boot or Micronaut.
Proficient in Kotlin or production experience in Java with a strong affinity for Kotlin.
Experienced in DevOps practices, including observability, deployment pipelines and managing infrastructure with Infrastructure-as-Code.
Experienced working with cloud-based services and technologies, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Familiar with Linux/Unix environments and deploying containerized workloads in the cloud.
Strong grasp of engineering best practices and system design principles, with experience in designing and implementing robust, secure, highly available, and cost-efficient systems.
You understand the importance of continuously delivering value and you’re able to work in small increments.
You have strong English speaking and writing skills, enabling effective communication and collaboration in an English-language environment.
Familiarity with data engineering practices and technologies like Airflow, Dagster, dbt, Trino or Apache Iceberg.
A foundational understanding of Python, enabling effective collaboration with our data analysts.
Prior experience with geospatial problems is not required, but an interest in the domain is a plus.
