Overview

We are looking for a passionate and driven Product Compliance & Safety Lead to join our fast-growing team at ELU (Electrification Unit of Yanmar). You will ensure that our battery products and electric powertrain solutions comply with all relevant regulatory requirements, standards, and norms. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across battery development, e-powertrain development, manufacturing, quality assurance, and the wider organisation to develop and implement compliance strategies, policies, and procedures. This role focuses on the entire electric powertrain—from battery to e-motor and power electronics—with initial emphasis on the European and North American markets, and future expansion to Asia (Japan, Korea).

Responsibilities
  • Leadership: Create and manage a small team of industry compliance specialists across multiple locations (EMEA, USA, ASIA); ensure clear communication and drive development of team interaction and collaboration; inspire, educate and drive performance.
  • Regulatory Compliance Management: Stay abreast of relevant regulations, standards, directives and industry best practices including safety, environmental and transportation regulations for different applications in different regions. Participate in industry associations such as RECHARGE, EUROMOT, EUROBAT.
  • Compliance Strategy Development: Develop and implement comprehensive compliance strategies, roadmaps and action plans to ensure products meet all applicable regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Product Testing and Certification: Coordinate product homologation activities with internal and external laboratories to evaluate compliance with regulatory standards and obtain necessary certifications and approvals (e.g., CE Marking, FCC certification).
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of compliance documentation, test reports, certifications and technical files in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with and educate R&D, manufacturing, procurement and quality assurance teams to integrate compliance considerations into product development processes, design reviews and manufacturing operations.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Supplier and Vendor Management: Evaluate the compliance of third-party suppliers and vendors, including contract manufacturers and component suppliers, and set procurement policies to ensure they meet applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline compliance processes, improve efficiency and enhance compliance monitoring and reporting capabilities.
  • Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on compliance requirements, regulations and best practices related to battery technology.
Requirements
  • Bachelor\'s degree in engineering, Chemistry, Regulatory Affairs or related field preferred; master\'s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in product compliance, regulatory affairs or related roles in the electrification industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements, standards and certifications applicable to battery technology. Participation in industry associations such as RECHARGE, EUROBAT, EUROMOT.
  • Experience with compliance testing, certification processes and working with regulatory agencies and notified bodies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in both Dutch and English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to create structure and convey complex information effectively to various stakeholders.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel and participate in industry conventions and association events.
