The Bollenbach group at the Institute of Biological Physics investigates evolution and interactions in microbial systems, especially in the context of antibiotic resistance and polymicrobial consortia. The group combines methods from molecular and microbiology with concepts and techniques from physics.

YOUR TASKS

  • Perform high-throughput co-culture assays and evolution experiments with bacteria isolated from polymicrobial infections using laboratory automation
  • Establish techniques for measuring microbial community composition using chromogenic agar and next-generation sequencing
  • Test predictions of mathematical models on polymicrobial infection datasets
  • Computational analysis of experimental data and refinement of theoretical models

YOUR PROFILE

  • Very good reputable MSc degree in biological physics, quantitative biology, or a related field
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary research between physics and biology
  • Previous knowledge of programming, statistics or microbiology is an advantage but not essential
  • Strong communication skills are required
