About the Role

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to join our team in Düsseldorf. This is a key role offering broad responsibility and high visibility across our German operations and beyond. The successful candidate will work closely with the business teams in Germany on a key customer account and collaborate with legal and business teams across Japan and internationally.

You will act as a trusted legal advisor to various business units, providing sound, business-oriented legal advice across a wide range of matters, with a focus on commercial contracting, procurement, key account management, dispute resolution, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management. You will engage regularly with internal stakeholders and external partners across multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise on complex legal matters including commercial transactions, disputes, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and data protection.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts, including customer, vendor, partner, and licensing agreements.
• Coordinate with external counsel on transactional, advisory, and dispute-related matters.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments in Germany and the EU; ensure timely compliance with applicable laws.
• Collaborate with global stakeholders to align legal strategy with business objectives.

Requirements

• Law degree and admission to practice law in the European Union (Germany preferred).
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience, ideally in-house.
• Experience in an international business environment is highly valued, particularly within the telecommunications, software or technology sectors.
• Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity; able to collaborate across regions and disciplines with professionalism and discretion.
• Familiarity with dispute resolution processes (litigation, arbitration, or pre-dispute advisory) is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex, cross-border legal matters, including commercial contracting and regulatory issues.
• Proven skills in negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and pragmatic legal problem-solving.
• Fluency in English and German is required. Additional languages of the European Union are an asset.
