Overview

As a Full Stack Software Engineer - Web Platform & AI (m/f/d)at StudySmarter, you will play a key role in shaping one of the most impactful education platforms used by millions of students worldwide. Our current web platform is built on WordPress, but we are actively evolving our architecture towards a more flexible, scalable, and modern setup using React, Node.js, and cloud-native services. You won’t just build features - you’ll help us decidehowwe should build them.

What you will do

• You actively contribute to the development and evolution of the StudySmarter website and web platform

• You implement new pages, features, and services across frontend and backend

• You help evaluate, design, and implement architectural improvements (e.g. moving logic out of WordPress where it makes sense)

• You collaborate on introducing and improving modern technologies such as React, Node.js, and service-based architectures

• You work closely with other engineers to raise overall code quality, best practices, and technical standards

• You bring AI into your daily development workflow and product thinking (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI APIs)

What you need to succeed

We are looking for asoftware engineer first, not a pure WordPress specialist. You are comfortable working with WordPress, but your background goes beyond it.

• 3+ years of experience as a full stack developer in modern web environments

• Solid experience with WordPress and PHP, combined with React and Node.js

• Strong fundamentals in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and clean, maintainable code

• Experience or strong interest in software architecture, scalability, and performance

• Curiosity and openness towards AI-assisted development and modern tooling

• A product-oriented mindset with a strong sense for usability and UX

Bonus points if you bring:

• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or AWS

• Knowledge of DevOps practices or backend services beyond WordPress

• Exposure to Python or other backend languages
