Freelance Data Engineer (ETL Focus) – Energy Sector – 12 Month Contract
We are supporting a major organisation in the energy sector as they expand their data and analytics capabilities. To deliver key projects in energy trading, grid management, and regulatory reporting, we are seeking a Freelance Data Engineer with strong expertise in designing and optimising ETL pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines to ingest, transform, and deliver high-volume energy data (market prices, IoT / sensor feeds, grid telemetry, sustainability metrics, etc.).
- Optimise data workflows for performance, scalability, and reliability across both batch and streaming environments.
- Implement data validation, monitoring, and quality frameworks to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and trading teams to deliver well-structured data for advanced analytics and reporting.
- Integrate data from a variety of internal and external sources (market feeds, SCADA systems, ERP, CRM, regulatory datasets).
- Support deployment and automation using CI / CD pipelines, containerisation (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
Qualifications
- Solid track record as a Data Engineer, with strong hands-on ETL experience.
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL; knowledge of Scala / Java is a plus.
- Experience with ETL and data processing frameworks (e.g., Airflow, Spark, Kafka).
- Proficiency with data lakes / warehouses (Snowflake, Delta Lake, Redshift, BigQuery, etc.).
- Understanding of data governance, quality standards, and regulatory reporting in energy markets or other regulated industries.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Excellent communication skills in English; German language skills are advantageous.
Project Details
- Location : Germany (hybrid — regular on-site collaboration, e.g. a few days per month).
- Contract Length : Initial 12 months, with potential for extension.
- Engagement : Full-time freelance (~40 hrs / week) with flexibility.
- Eligibility : Must be legally eligible to work in Germany. as a freelancer
