Overview

Constructor University (formerly Jacobs University) is a private state-accredited English-language university in Bremen. We offer Bachelor, Master and PhD programs in three schools: School of Science, School of Computer Science and Engineering, and School of Business Social and Decision Sciences. Our principles are first-class teaching and research, international diversity, and transdisciplinary cooperation. The university seeks a tenure-track faculty member in biochemistry and may appoint at the Assistant or Associate level, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Constructor University invites applications for the following position to be filled ideally by December 2025:

Assistant / Associate Professor in Biochemistry (f / m / d)

Full-time tenure initially limited to 3 years

Your responsibilities
  • Engage in innovative research in biochemistry, molecular genetics, and/or computational biochemistry, combining experimental and computational approaches, preferably at the interface of biochemistry and molecular genetics.
  • Maintain a cutting-edge externally funded research program that synergizes with existing research groups in the School of Science; focus on big data analytics (omics technology), modelling, digitalization, and bioinformatics to complement ongoing activities in biochemistry.
  • Conduct teaching in biochemistry and molecular genetics at BSc, MSc, and PhD levels, including fundamental and advanced lectures and laboratories.
  • Take a pivotal role in the new MSc program Quantitative Life Science, contributing research experience and developing innovative, pedagogically sound approaches to online, hybrid, and in-person teaching and learning; advise students and supervise Bachelor, Master, and PhD theses and research projects.
  • Benefit from university support for junior faculty, including formal and informal mentoring, administrative support, and a flexible budget to establish an internationally visible research group; develop multidisciplinary projects with internal groups or industrial partners and leverage existing facilities.
Your profile
  • PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field (e.g., Bioinformatics).
  • Strong publication record in relevant international journals
  • Documented research activities using modern technologies in biochemistry and molecular genetics.
  • Experience in acquisition of third-party funding
  • Experience in successful teaching in international and diverse environments with a demonstrable interest in innovative teaching and learning approaches.
  • Intercultural experience and competence
  • Responsible, self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills (language of instruction and campus communication).
  • Ideally eligible for an ERC Starting Grant (assistant level) or an ERC Consolidator Grant (associate level).
