As Field Application Engineer you will ensure that our state‑of‑the‑art systems operate at peak performance for customers. This role contributes to cutting‑edge technologies that enable breakthroughs in AI, 5G and beyond.
Role and responsibility
As a Field Application Engineer you will support customers in process development and performance optimization using ASML application products and expertise across competencies such as overlay imaging, defectivity and productivity.
You will be part of the Dresden‑based team within our Customer Support (CS) division responsible for maintaining a broad range of ASML systems. Working in a collaborative environment with experts from various disciplines, you will deliver high‑quality support and resolve technical issues efficiently.
As an Application Engineer you will :
- Provide product application support to customer engineering and process teams.
- Develop strong technical relationships with direct customer interaction.
- Resolve customer product‑related issues by defining clear problem statements and solution spaces supported by relevant data.
- Pro‑actively identify potential ASML application product opportunities for customer support evaluations and ensure efficient execution.
- Understand customer needs, align clear problem descriptions and troubleshoot effectively under time pressure.
- Take ownership and show initiative by responding promptly to customer requests and issues.
- Lead escalations, coordinate with ASML internal experts and serve as the main customer interface.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure smooth and effective troubleshooting.
- Manage stakeholders on technical topics with clarity and accountability.
- Demonstrate a problem‑solving mindset and a proactive approach to challenges.
- Support ASML products including DUV scanners, metrology tools like Yieldstar and virtual computing platforms.
- Compile critical information, assess complex situations and implement innovative solutions with guidance from a knowledgeable and supportive team.
- Document and report technical actions to ensure effectiveness and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Follow a tailored development program and collaborate with diverse colleagues to enhance your skills and expertise.
Education and experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, physics, materials science, semiconductor technology or a related technical field.
- 25 years of relevant experience in semiconductor manufacturing process engineering or equipment support (entry‑level roles may accept internships or academic projects).
- Hands‑on experience with lithography systems, metrology tools or DUV scanners is highly desirable.
- Experience in customer support, field service or application engineering in a high‑tech or cleanroom environment.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel) and problem‑solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, DMAIC).
- Exposure to cross‑functional collaboration and working in international/multicultural teams.
- Experience in escalation handling, technical documentation and continuous improvement initiatives is a strong asset.
Skills
- Strong communication skills; fluency in English required, German language skills desirable.
- Basic understanding of semiconductor technology particularly in lithography process.
- Ability to perform effectively in high‑pressure environments.
- Strong logical thinking, problem‑solving abilities and data analysis skills with attention to detail.
- Ownership mindset with the ability to adapt to changing customer needs and circumstances.
- Team‑oriented attitude and ability to work in a multicultural team.
- Willingness to travel primarily within Germany; limited international travel may be required (up to 10%).
- Commitment to safety and quality as top priorities.
Other information
This position requires access to U.S. controlled technology as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. 730 et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such U.S. controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access U.S. controlled technology.
