VN 25 / 34 Accounting Officer

Within the Administration Department, the Finance Division supports the overall EUMETSAT mission by coordinating financial planning and budgeting, collecting revenue, safeguarding funds, executing and accounting for financial transactions, and advising on financial matters in accordance with Financial Rules and standards.

It is an exciting time at EUMETSAT, operating a satellite fleet delivering weather and climate data globally to protect lives, property, and industries. Our administrative and support functions are vital to our success and valued members of the EUMETSAT family.

Based in the Accounting Section of the Finance Division and reporting to the Head of the Section, the Accounting Officer will handle a full range of accounting activities.

Duties

1. Maintain financial accounts and prepare financial statements and reports;
2. Reconcile the Budget with Financial Accounts;
3. Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings;
4. Monitor agreements with external partners and third parties;
5. Reconcile payroll with the General Ledger monthly;
6. Manage accounting of provisions annually and monthly;
7. Support internal and external audits;
8. Act as deputy to the Head of the Accounting Section when needed;
9. Assist with other financial matters as required.

Qualifications

University degree or equivalent, with a recognized professional qualification in Accounting.

Languages

Proficiency in English and some knowledge of French.

Skills and Experience

• At least 5 years of experience in Financial Accounting, including closing processes;
• Practical ERP experience, preferably SAP;
• Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel;
• Ability to work independently, in teams, and under pressure;
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills;
• Knowledge of IPSAS is advantageous.

Employment Conditions

The initial 4-year contract may be renewed for subsequent 5-year terms based on performance and organizational needs. There is no limit to contract renewals until retirement age (63), offering long-term career prospects.

This position is graded A2 / A4, with a minimum net salary of EUR 7,000 per month, negotiable based on experience. Salary scales are reviewed annually. EUMETSAT offers attractive benefits.
