Position: Mechanic
Start Date: As soon as possible
Employment: Term, Full-time (40 hrs/wk)
Hours: Monday to Friday (7:30am to 4:00pm)
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintains and repairs all buses, vehicles, grounds equipment, and generators.
- Maintains preventative maintenance program according to Ministry of Transportation requirements.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs alternate fuel systems.
- Orders parts, equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Road tests vehicles.
- Operates tools and equipment of the trade.
- Responds to emergency situations as requested.
- Inspects (daily) and operates a service vehicle.
- Performs other assigned comparable duties within the scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities required by this class specification.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12.
- Apprenticeship and/or Trades Qualification Certificate (Commercial Transport Vehicle Repairs or Automotive Mechanical Repairs).
- Class 3 B.C. Driver's License, including Air Brake endorsement.
- One-year related experience.
- Ability to perform a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance of district vehicles, equipment, and generators.
- Thorough and current knowledge of the standards, practices, regulations, methods, tools, and equipment of the trade.
- Effective communication skills, using courtesy and tact.
- Ability to determine, judge, and select appropriate courses of action within established methods and procedures.
- Physical ability to perform the required duties.
