Job description
The Team

The Ministry of Forests’ Natural Resource Officer Service (NROS) delivers a full range of natural resource compliance and enforcement activities, including education, promotion and compliance with regulatory requirements and conducting major environmental investigations. The NROS supports the management and delivery of compliance and enforcement activities in a manner that is timely, appropriate and consistent with the mandate of the Ministry.

The Role

The Indigenous Relations Restorative Justice Officer plays a critical leadership role in advancing reconciliation, fostering government-to-government relationships, and supporting restorative justice initiatives within the Natural Resource Officer Service (NROS). This position is responsible for building trust-based partnerships with Indigenous communities, ensuring Indigenous interests are integrated into enforcement practices, and leading collaborative approaches to conflict resolution and compliance.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline. Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to: forestry, resource management, biology, environmental science, communications, agrology, planning, archaeology, and anthropology; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training may also be considered.
  • Experience managing conflict involving multiple individuals with diverse perspectives and interests.

Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Those who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit);
  • Recent (within 5 years) experience leading consultations and/or participating in negotiations with First Nations;
  • Recent (within 5 years) operational experience in natural resource management;
  • Experience in natural resource law enforcement;
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples and/or communities in Canada and participating in consultation with First Nations.
About this Position

This position can be located in one of the Ministry’s North Area Offices: Dawson Creek, Prince George, Smithers or Terrace.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Depending on a successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future similar vacancies in the North Area.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
