Job description

Do you like completing analytical laboratory testing? Would you like to be in a role where you're responsible for maintaining analytical and field instrumentation? Do you enjoy supporting the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures? If you answered yes, we have the role for you! Our Chalk River location is seeking an Industrial Hygiene Technologist (IH Tech) to join our team. Apply today!

What will you be doing!
  • Ensuring proper sample receiving and processing of samples follow Chain of Custody procedures and by using the Laboratory Information Management Systems (LabWorks).
  • Performing analytical testing following IH Lab operating procedures.
  • Operating and maintaining analytical equipment, including but not limited to microscopes, Gas Chromatograph, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Infrared Spectrometer and analytical balances.
  • Maintaining consumables and supplies inventory.
  • Assisting in the development of new analytical procedures.
  • Conducting research as assigned.
  • Collaborating effectively with Industrial Hygienists and Occupational Safety personnel.
  • Performing Confined Space Initial Hazard Assessments/Confined Space Entry Surveys and ensuring surveys comply with the relevant analytical and interpretation documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
  • Education
    • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education, in a field relevant to the position and normally has one to four (1 – 4) years of pertinent technological experience. Or
    • Secondary School Graduation Diploma and more than four to six (4 to 6) years of pertinent and progressive experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
  • Experience
    • 1 to 2 years of work experience in an analytical laboratory is preferred.
    • 2 to 3 years of work experience in Industrial Hygiene field operations or a combination of experiences and IH-related training/education is preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Enhanced experience and knowledge of specific federal and provincial legislation (Ontario) that affects occupational health and safety within CNL.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Global understanding of all Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental principles and how they work together to create a safe work environment.
    • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication (active listening, oral expression/comprehension) and
      training/presentation skills.
    • Knowledge of principles and practices of customer service.
    • Familiarity with office procedures, methods, and equipment, including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
    • Knowledge of good laboratory work practices is required when working in the analytical laboratory.
    • Familiarity with analytical instrumentation and applicable instrument software, including a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to be physically active (standing, walking) for up to 7.5 hrs a day.
  • Able to manage stairs, ladders, and other egress equipment that enter all site and building areas, including confined spaces.
  • Able to use personal protective equipment, including a respirator.
