Position

Position Purpose summary
Youth support work is focused on supporting, promoting, and enhancing well-being of individuals and families as well as assisting needs of youth with regular and seasonal programs (including backpacks, summer camps, and Christmas) and other programs that are developed to meet the needs of youth and the community. This position will provide general support to various services in the Corps setting of a Ministry Unit.

Accountabilities
  • As directed, support pre-planned program activities for the community (food bank, crafts, sports, games, music, homework stations, Bible-based devotions, community church, meetings etc.).
  • Work in a team setting supporting various tasks and activities.
  • Provide general administrative support greeting visitors, supporting reception, forwarding visitors, etc.
  • Provide general assistance during public relations events and regular campaigns.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all matters pertaining to the program participants.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures relating to the programs.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Critical Relationship Management

Internal: MU leadership and staff, volunteers.
External: Might have to communicate with community members.

Managerial/Technical Responsibilities

Reports directly to the Corps Officer.

Financial And Material Management
  • Minor material responsibilities.
  • The incumbent will not be involved in receiving, handling or disbursements of funds.
  • The incumbent has no input into the annual budget.
  • The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.
Working Conditions
  • The incumbent’s work environment is typically in an office environment.
  • May be required to move/lift up to 30 pounds.
Education, Experience And Qualifications
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
  • Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
  • Completion of some high school coursework is required.
  • CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.

  • The incumbent must have a year of related experience.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $18.76 with a maximum of $22.51.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
