Qualifications

Youth LINC Technologist - Regular Part Time

Status: Regular Part Time

Hours: Up to 24 hours/week

Home Campus: Fennell (hybrid work arrangements available)

Rate of Pay: $20.56 per hour, plus 4% in lieu of vacation

Reporting to the Associate Dean, the main role of this position is to support the technical aspects of instruction for newcomer youth students enrolled in the College’s Youth LINC Photography, Youth LINC Video, and Youth LINC Media courses.

The incumbent must coordinate and maintain a variety of software programs and digital devices to augment student learning relative to the applicable curriculum delivery and is expected to support the development of student knowledge and skills related to technical software and equipment. The incumbent will be called upon to assist language faculty in the program to develop concepts and instructions for student projects and learning tasks related to language acquisition through photography, videography, and multimedia. The position will liaise with other staff within the department to develop relevant opportunities for all students.

What you’ll be doing

In-program technical support

  • Assist faculty with the related course technical requirements and assessments.
  • Assist in the coordination of class material to learning outcomes and course objectives.
  • Demonstrate and instruct use of technical equipment and software for purposes of projects and activities.

Learning support

  • The incumbent will provide learning support interventions as needed that are timely, effective and appropriate to address individual student needs.
  • Review course materials (outlines, textbooks, handouts, course information) and consult with faculty as technical aspects of learning activities.
  • Monitor student progress, and where applicable refer student for additional support.
  • Work closely with faculty to alter learning materials and make recommendations for curricula changes.

Communication and reporting

  • Communicate with all stakeholders (including faculty coordinator, outreach & engagement officer, and learning support officer), regarding program obstacles and successes.
  • Assist with statistical analyses of projects’ initiatives to evaluate outcomes and engagement.
What you’ll bring to the role
  • A minimum of two-year postsecondary education in journalism, photography, media arts, or a related discipline.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience working in a technical capacity with digital equipment and software.
  • Experience working with newcomer populations in an educational capacity is necessary for this position, including those with limited English-language proficiency.
  • Experience working with youth populations, including those who may have experienced periods of disruption in their educational journey and may not have completed high school.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud, Premier Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder, ComicLife3, Canva, iMovie, Chrome, Photoshop.
  • Proficient in use and functionality with DSLR camera equipment and iMac computers.
  • Work independently and within a team; self-starter who is able to prioritize and manage own schedule (including ensuring adequate time for planning, set-up, delivery, and wrap-up, etc.), while effectively collaborating with others on the team toward shared goals.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
