We are seeking a Vice President, Corporate Development to join our team in Toronto, ON.

We are at an exciting time where we are poised to further accelerate our growth both organically and through mergers and acquisitions (M&A) as we expand our capabilities in the Property & Casualty Insurance sector. The VP, Corporate Development will play a critical role in this growth by executing upon our sourcing and business development strategies as it relates to M&A activity.

The Vice President, Corporate Development will:
  • Conduct market research to identify new companies to add to the list of prospective partner firms in the P&C and adjacent business segments with a focus on Ontario.
  • Initiate contact with both warm leads and new prospects to establish relationships, determine relative attractiveness and propensity to transact, qualify leads, and establish priority for pursuit.
  • Create relationship plans to advance relationships with identified prospects through regular follow-ups, ongoing communication, and relationship development activities.
  • Articulate the value proposition of partnering with People Corporation as part of encouraging new and existing prospects to pursue a transaction.
  • Maintain your prospect database within our CRM with relevant information regarding prospects.
  • Maintain relevant metrics on origination activity and provide ongoing and periodic reporting to the Chief Corporate Development Officer.
  • Coordinate with other members of People Corporation’s management and professionals in the field (e.g. business leaders, sales management, and consultants) in advancement of origination activities.
  • Participate in the evaluation of potential prospects/transactions, including qualitative (e.g. strategic fit and business risks/opportunities) and quantitative (e.g. valuation, financial analysis of income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow items) analyses.
  • Participate in preliminary due diligence and internal discussions regarding transaction rationale, vendor preferences and expectations, and assessment of prospect’s business, etc.
  • Provide continuous relationship support through the transaction process while maintaining effective communication with the prospect to gather input and feedback for the transaction team.
  • Active participation in projects related to origination strategy, tactics, and operations.
To be successful as the Vice President, Corporate Development you will need:
  • A natural “builder” and “hunter” mentality; able to network, source, and develop relationships with potential M&A prospects.
  • Seasoned communication skills including the ability to tailor messaging to appeal to different potential acquisition prospects, as well as the ability to determine the best mode and frequency of communication to maximize effectiveness with different acquisition prospects.
  • Strong prioritization skills to manage many simultaneous initiatives coupled with the ability to pivot quickly as demands change in real-time; ability to adjust workflows to reflect practical time constraints.
  • To be a team player who demonstrates high levels of empathy and strong interpersonal skills.
  • To possess an entrepreneurial spirit, be resourceful in your approach, and be self‑motivated; always committed to meeting deadlines.
All‑star candidates will have:
  • 10-15 years of business development/sales experience with a proven track record sourcing and closing deals.
  • Prior experience in the P&C insurance/benefits, financial services, or professional services sectors.
  • M&A experience or exposure to and interest in the M&A process with the ability to articulate the process to prospects.
  • Experience working in a highly growth‑focused organization.
