Job Title: Heavy Equipment/Forklift Mechanic
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Location: Mississauga, ON
The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a fleet of forklifts and heavy equipment, including wheel loaders, skid steers, and backhoes.
Work Schedule:
- Monday to Friday (8- & 12-hour rotating shifts)
- Overtime as required
Pay Rate
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on powered lift trucks and heavy equipment systems, including electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and structural components.
- Conduct regular preventative maintenance to ensure optimal equipment performance and reduce downtime.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, and electronic diagnostic equipment to carry out repairs efficiently and safely.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and manage parts required for maintenance tasks.
- Participate in technical training and development programs to stay current with industry standards and technologies.
- Adhere to a flexible work schedule based on operational needs.
- Demonstrate initiative and adaptability in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Foster a team-oriented and safety-first work culture.
- Ensure full compliance with all Ministry of Environment (M.O.E.) and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Work in various areas of the facility, which may include exposure to hot, cold, dusty, wet, or noisy conditions.
- Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and hot work procedures.
- Consistently wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety footwear with metatarsal protection, eye and hearing protection and respirators,
- Operate within a unionized, heavy industrial foundry environment.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Certified Lift Truck Mechanic (e.g., 310T, 310S, or 421T).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proven mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and repair complex systems.
- Physically capable of lifting heavy components and working in confined spaces.
- Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
- Technologically proficient with modern diagnostic tools and systems.
- Reliable, punctual, and safety minded.
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
