Overview

We seek motivated undergraduates for a Co-op in R&D Biologics Discovery at Amgen British Columbia, Burnaby.

Undergraduate Co-Op Student – R&D Biologics Discovery

What You Will Do

Amgen British Columbia is a research center focused on platform technology for antibody discovery. You will join one of the functional teams, work with a supervisor, and contribute to projects with potential impact on human health.

Essential Functions:

  • Learn and apply basic and modern lab techniques (e.g., tissue culture, molecular cloning, flow cytometry, bioassays, imaging, automation, mass spec, NGS).
  • Participate in development of novel experiments and methods.
  • Use advanced laboratory instruments and systems.
  • Apply literature research to experiments.
  • Experimental design, execution, data analysis and documentation.
  • Join one of the functional teams at Amgen British Columbia:
  • Discovery Protein Science: protein design, production, and characterization for therapeutic discovery
  • Immune Repertoire Strategy and Generation: develop strategies and analyze antibody immune repertoires from transgenic platforms to support early-stage discovery
  • Antibody Discovery and Screening: discovery using in vivo and in vitro platforms and high-throughput screening
  • In Vitro Pharmacology: develop and run assays to identify molecules with desired function
  • Synthetic Immunoengineering: understand and manipulate the immune system through chemical biology, protein engineering, and immunology
What We Expect of You

We value diverse contributions to serve patients. The candidate is a Co-op with the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program with a 3.0 GPA or equivalent
  • Completion of one year of study prior to internship
  • Enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program following the internship
  • Must not be employed at the start of the internship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree concentrations in Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or related
  • Available for two consecutive four-month terms
  • Knowledge of cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, and molecular biology
  • Previous lab experience or prior co-op/internship
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, transfection, and flow cytometry
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Team-oriented with good organization and record-keeping
