Overview

SAIT’s Athletic and Recreation department is a valuable part of the SAIT experience — and we are proud to support Trojans players in sports from hockey to golf, and everything in between. SAIT Recreation's programs and facilities are designed to support active and healthy lifestyles for our students, staff, alumni and members of the public.

The Opportunity

Athletics and Recreation department is looking for assistant coaches & team managers to make up the Trojans Athletics & Recreational program offerings.

Position Summary:

  • Primary Focus: Student engagement, experience, and program enhancement
  • Support participation and competitive aspirations of students at SAIT
  • Skill assessment, player prospecting, and team promotion
  • Tactical, technical, strategic skill coordination & team social cohesion
  • Podium focused planning with a team social development emphasis
  • Roster management, development, and enhancement
  • Game day and/or event support/leadership as required
  • Weekends and evening work expectations over the course of a season
  • Travel demands considered part of the Coaching Staff portfolio
  • Off court/ice/pitch/race duties considered part of the Coaching portfolio
  • Positions range from 5-30 hours per week of billable webtime entry
The Role
  • Program Management Support
  • Support Head Coach with administrative, logistical, financial & personnel requirements for the program
  • Assist with all team related activities along with support from Trojans admin & assigned sport coordinator
  • Coaching
  • Create an environment that is aligned with SAIT FIRST principles and fosters holistic growth of student athletes & staff
  • Create a culture of excellence that motivates athletes & staff to strive for their best in all aspects of being a part of Trojans programming
  • Conduct effective practices & training sessions that allow student-athletes to improve, while providing enough time for academics & generalized success as a student-athlete
  • Work directly with Head Athletic Therapist to ensure YTP is conducive to injury prevention & peak health throughout the season
  • Administration
  • Adhere to all Trojans & league requirements regarding athlete onboarding each season (Transfers, LOIs, Nominations, Required training/education sessions etc.)
  • Adhere to SAIT policies, procedures and protocols including p-card purchasing, web time entry, mandatory SafeSport training facility access controls, ID card presentations, brand alignment and respectful workplace related expectations
  • Team scheduling, planning and structuring including communications
  • Submit required documentation in a timely fashion
  • Submit compliance related formalities in a progressive fashion
  • EDI, Safesport & SAIT Engagement
  • Support & promote SAIT & Trojans initiatives not directly tied to athletic pursuits
  • Advancement of a #wearetrojans mentality
Qualifications & Experience
  • Must have a High School Diploma
  • NCCP Registration & pursuit of sport specific training is required
  • A Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma would be an asset
  • NCCP Entry Level sport specific trainingis preferred
  • Successful completion of Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (PIC-VSS) is required
