Job Description
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Under general direction, machine, fit, and assemble component parts and precision tooling to build special-purpose machinery, robotic work cells, and factory automation projects, focusing on quality and timeliness.
- Coordinate activities of Toolmakers and apprentices involved in mechanical build, assembly, and integration to ensure quality, safety, and adherence to budget and schedule.
- Set up and operate various machine tools, such as manual lathes and small mills, applying knowledge of mechanisms, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
- Manage small to medium projects effectively.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate all toolroom equipment with practical knowledge.
- Machine details with attention to tolerances, GD&T, and understanding of function and relationships within assemblies.
- Follow directions from Manager and Group Leader.
- Utilize the tracking system proficiently.
- Provide project status updates during weekly meetings.
- Support manufacturing department needs and ensure print updates are completed.
- Perform floor assembly according to layout and procedures, ensuring safety and schedule adherence.
- Participate in debugging and line integration, checking setup, cycle times, and functionality.
- Perform rework efficiently, recording all rework activities.
- Assist in testing pressure boundary components and support during debug, integration, and acceptance phases.
- Participate in dismantling, shipping, and installation at customer sites, following safety procedures.
- Travel as needed for installs and servicing.
- Reassemble equipment at customer sites, provide training, and fill out site reports.
- Work positively within the team, train apprentices, and contribute to manufacturing standards and problem-solving.
Additional Information
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certificate of Qualification as a Machine Tool Builder and Integrator or Tool and Die Maker, or equivalent.
Experience:
- Completion of a Certificate of Apprenticeship and Certification of Qualification in relevant trades.
- At least two years of hands-on experience in integrating and assembling custom factory automation.
