Qualifications

Position Details
  • Position: Part-Time Security Guard
  • Site: The Michener Institute | 222 St Patrick St, Toronto, ON M5T 1V4
  • Averaging Agreement: Overtime is Averaging Agreement (AA) after 88 hours
  • Hours: Saturday and Sunday (1900-0700 hrs)
  • Payrate: $18.25/hrs
  • Posting Date: September 16, 2025
  • Internal Closing Date: September 22, 2025
  • External Closing Date: October 7, 2025
Key Responsibilities
  • Be able to comprehend and demonstrate competencies of The Michener Institute and the Security policies and procedures with an ability to use a customer service approach
  • Be able to keep an open and objective mind, remembering the citys diverse community
  • Assist visitors, and employee during crisis and contact the necessary emergency services as needed
  • Ensure that the property is safe by ensuring all security measures are functioning properly
  • Enthusiastically conducts proactive patrols (exterior and interior), and be able to address policy breeches, and note facility concerns
  • Attend and investigate security alarms and emergencies in a timely and professional manner as not to create a panic amongst the public
  • Ability to de-escalate a crisis, provide support and liaise with emergency personnel including; police, fire and paramedic resources
  • Handle Lost & Found items and inquiries
  • Ability to provide first aid and medical response when required to any person
  • Maintain positive and constructive relationships with The Clients staff and external clients by providing timely and accurate support as required
  • Perform duties and tasks assigned by the Security Leadership team and respond to the directions of the client
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the city
Prerequisites
  • Valid Security License for the province of Ontario
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Level C from a WSIB approved provider
  • Covid Vaccine two doses
  • Proof of up to date immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella and two step Tuberculosis skin test
  • Must be willing to complete N95 Mask fit testing during the training
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • English (oral/written) fluency is a must
  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred
  • Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
