Position Summary

Reporting to the IT Operations Manager, the Systems Administrator's role is to ensure the stable operation of APEGA's computing environment. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all network, off-the-shelf software, and hardware used to provide APEGA’s technology environment. This position will also analyze and resolve end-user hardware and software issues in a timely and accurate manner, and provide end-user training where required. Cybersecurity is considered at all times, including keeping computers and networks up to date and maintaining and monitoring system access.

Responsibilities
  • Administer and monitor security solutions, intrusion prevention, and detection systems.
  • Manage communications ([email, IM, …]) and connection solutions, including workstation connectivity, local area networks, company website, intranet, and Internet applications.
  • Manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform system backups, recovery and disaster recovery.
  • Administer servers and their associated operating systems and software.
  • Design, implement and maintain VMware vSphere infrastructure.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and capacity planning of vSphere environment.
  • Proactively identify and perform hardware and software upgrades, including firmware and critical patches, on time.
  • Research emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.
  • Support application development teams throughout project lifecycles.
  • Administer and monitor the communication hardware and software deployed at APEGA.
  • Maintain the computer network by evaluating performance issues, including availability, utilization, throughput, goodput, and latency; planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defining network policies and procedures; establishing connections and security.
  • Create required reports in response to business user needs.
  • Perform network and security audits.
  • Addressing incidents and service requests routed to the IT Operations team.
  • Work with applications/systems to undertake analysis, diagnosis and resolution of staff problems, which may range from straightforward to more complicated technical issues.
  • Provides staff with the latest hardware and software to enable them to perform their jobs.
  • Investigate and research new technologies, including cloud and cybersecurity.
