JOB FUNCTION:

Reports to the Section Manager, CANDU 6 Engineering and Projects

Provision of system engineering services in the preparation or updating of Functional Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FFMEA) to evaluate component failure effects on design functions of various Nuclear and Non-Nuclear Systems and determine the potential nuclear safety impacts of component failures. Make recommendations on safety stock (spares) for systems and potential changes to system or component safety classification. Preparation of System Health Monitoring plans for monitoring and analysis of critical plant system parameters to identify degradation mechanisms and trends, and report on overall system health. Make recommendations on required maintenance and/or modifications to improve reliability and overall system health. Support Operations and Maintenance personnel with technical assistance regarding operation and maintenance of equipment / components and support complex troubleshooting activities for equipment malfunctions.

JOB DUTIES:

Within the terms of reference and context provided by the Director, Engineering Programs, the System Engineer is accountable for the following:

  • Developing a good understanding of the system design basis, safety functions (if applicable), layout, operation and maintenance requirements for systems assigned to them by reviewing system design documents, Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR), conducting site walkdowns when possible and interfacing with other groups.
  • Developing a good understanding of the overall System Health of the systems assigned to them.
  • Providing technical engineering support to Operations and Maintenance Personnel, as required.
  • Monitoring the performance of assigned systems during operation.
  • Raising quality observation reports when system issues are found.
  • Participating in the resolution of maintenance and operational issues(troubleshooting teams), as needed.
  • Providing input to operating manuals and flowsheets and maintenance manuals.
  • Preparing data for recommendations to achieve work objectives; ability to work with others, including operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Carrying out or assisting with special studies or analyses (FMEA) for the definition and determination of potential nuclear safety impacts of component failures and considerations of system improvements.
  • Participating in the preparation of specifications, procedures, estimates for small or large projects.
  • Authoring official documents including letters, procedures, reports, specifications, and requirements.
  • Other duties as required.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 years of experience working on Nuclear Power Plant projects in Systems Engineering
  • Previous experience coordinating / verifying at least 1 project to maintain and improve the reliability of Systems, Structures and Components.
  • Previous experience in the preparation of at least one simple and/or complex troubleshooting plan
  • A Professional Engineer of any Canadian province or eligible for PEO status with a passion for engineering

NON-MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of maintenance/operation in CANDU Nuclear Power Plants with expertise in system engineering.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage and lead
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality products under tight timelines and high pressure to support unit restart schedules
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and experience in leading technical projects to successful completion
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and have demonstrated a high commitment to quality
  • Strong attention to detail and to quality assurance requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team situation
  • Romanian Language proficiency would be beneficial, but is not a requirement
  • Training or certification in investigative techniques (e.g. Kepner Tregoe) is considered an asset.
  • Training or certification in predictive maintenance techniques (e.g. NDT, thermography, vibration analysis) is considered an asset.
