The Opportunity

Join us as a Sustainability Project Engineer, playing a key role in delivering asset renewal and energy‑efficiency projects that strengthen our organisation’s long‑term sustainability. In this pivotal role, you’ll assess ageing mechanical systems, design sustainable replacements, and manage projects from concept to commissioning. Your work will directly support our commitment to environmental stewardship, operational efficiency, and future‑focused facility performance. You’ll collaborate with internal teams, consultants, and contractors to deliver high‑value infrastructure improvements while ensuring projects meet sustainability goals, regulatory requirements, and budget expectations.

What You Will Bring

You are an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong understanding of sustainable design, energy efficiency, and asset lifecycle planning. You bring a balance of technical expertise and practical project delivery experience, along with the confidence to work independently, engage stakeholders, and manage multiple priorities.

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, with registration through Engineers Australia (NER desirable).
  • Proven experience in mechanical system design and end‑to‑end project delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability principles, energy‑efficient technologies, and lifecycle analysis.
  • Understanding of NABERS Energy ratings and frameworks such as Green Star or WELL.
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Key Accountabilities
  • You are an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong understanding of sustainable design, energy efficiency, and asset lifecycle planning. You bring a balance of technical expertise and practical project delivery experience, along with the confidence to work independently, engage stakeholders, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Conduct technical assessments of mechanical assets, including lifecycle cost analysis, performance reviews, and replacement feasibility.
  • Design sustainable replacement systems that meet operational needs, engineering standards, and environmental goals.
  • Prepare engineering documentation, specifications, drawings, and cost estimates.
  • Manage mechanical system replacement projects from planning to commissioning, including procurement, contractor coordination, and risk management.
  • Monitor project progress, report outcomes, and drive continuous improvement in asset sustainability.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, consultants, and contractors to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Support wider sustainability initiatives and contribute to organisational environmental strategy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, prepare high‑quality communications, and provide regular updates to managers and stakeholders.
Desirable
  • Experience delivering mechanical or sustainability‑focused projects in healthcare or complex infrastructure environments.
  • Knowledge of hospital‑related engineering and compliance standards (e.g., AS 1668, AS 4187).
  • Project management certification (PMP or similar).
  • Proficiency with engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or energy modelling tools.
