A Career at HARMAN
As a technology leader that is rapidly on the move, HARMAN is filled with people who are focused on making life better. Innovation, inclusivity and teamwork are a part of our DNA. When you add that to the challenges we take on and solve together, you’ll discover that at HARMAN you can grow, make a difference and be proud of the work you do everyday.
About the Role

The automotive industry is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by technological advancements, shifting consumer expectations, and a heightened focus on Sustainability. Vehicle OEMs and consumers alike are prioritizing sustainable solutions, and stringent regulations tied to climate change are accelerating the need for decarbonization strategies.

To support this transformation, the Intelligent‑Cockpit (IC) Strategic Business Unit (SBU) is seeking an innovative and driven Automotive Sustainability Leader to lead sustainability initiatives and establish a comprehensive blueprint for sustainable product development for the SBU. The Sustainability Manager will lead sustainability initiatives in the SBU to help achieve the Harman sustainability objectives (focused on CO2e) aligned with our value engineering and growth goals defined by the leadership strategy. Meeting these objectives requires a cross‑functional collaborative mindset working with Procurement, Engineering, Customer Account Management, Manufacturing and Suppliers.

Your Role / Team

This position will report to the SBU Value‑Management Manager and will be an individual contributor role working with a cross‑functional team.

What You Will Do
  • Drive Sustainability Strategy – Champion sustainability initiatives within the Intelligent Cockpit Business Unit, aligning with corporate Science‑Based Targets (SBT) and setting benchmarks for future customer programs.
  • Promote Organizational Awareness – Lead internal engagement through training, workshops, and communications to build sustainability knowledge and culture across the organization.
  • Develop Frameworks and Processes – Co‑create and implement standardized sustainability frameworks, tools, and processes across product lifecycles—from concept to production—ensuring integration of environmental metrics.
  • Coordinate Decarbonization Efforts – Evaluate and reduce product carbon footprints across the value chain by implementing energy‑efficient designs, material optimization, and circular economy principles, working with product and project engineering teams.
  • Coordinate Regulatory Compliance – Collaborate with the central sustainability team to monitor and integrate global environmental regulations and emerging sustainability standards into product development and execution.
  • Create a Scalable Sustainability Blueprint – Develop a roadmap for Intelligent Cockpit products that serves as a repeatable model for future customer programs, including cost and CO₂e modeling.
  • Foster Cross‑Functional Collaboration – Partner with engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to embed sustainability into design, sourcing, and delivery processes.
  • Engage External Stakeholders – Collaborate with suppliers, customers, and regulatory bodies to align on sustainability goals and leverage emerging technologies for environmental and cost benefits.
  • Track and Report Progress – Monitor sustainability KPIs and decarbonization milestones, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and continuous improvement.
What You Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in sustainability, or a related role, within the automotive or technology sectors such as Sustainability, VAVE, Cost engineering of Electronic / Mechanical systems and Automotive Component Engineering.
  • Good understanding of automotive Infotainment and display technologies and the associated value chain.
  • Experience in lifecycle assessments or product carbon footprint methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, climate change regulations, science‑based targets, sustainability frameworks, industry best practices, and decarbonization strategies.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, sustainability reporting, and the use of sustainability software and tools.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in English with effective communication skills and the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
Nice to Have
  • PMP certification
  • Experience with Automotive Infotainment/Intelligent‑Cockpit products and projects.
  • Automotive Tier1 RFQ experience
What We Offer
  • Flexible work environment, allowing hybrid remote work globally for positions that can be performed outside a HARMAN or customer location.
  • Access to employee discounts on world‑class Harman and Samsung products (JBL, HARMAN Kardon, AKG, etc.)
  • Extensive training opportunities through our own HARMAN University
  • An inclusive and diverse work environment that fosters and encourages professional and personal development.
