Job summary

A regional health authority in Canada is seeking an experienced Surgical Care Nurse to join a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will assess, plan, provide, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients, ensuring patient safety and quality care in a surgical environment. Applicants must be registered nurses with post-basic education in surgical/ambulatory care and possess strong organizational and communication skills. This role involves working independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
  • Up to two years recent, related experience on a unit specific basis.
  • Demonstrate sound judgement and observation skills.

Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Working as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, the Surgical Care Nurse functions as an experienced self-directed surgical care nurse by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care for assigned patients.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant; and
  • Post-basic education in surgical/ambulatory care nursing on a unit specific basis; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Up to two (2) years recent, related experience on a unit specific basis.
  • Basic Life Support, Level C
