A healthcare service provider in Alberta is seeking a Support Services Worker to maintain cleanliness across facilities. Responsibilities include cleaning patient rooms, managing waste, and assisting with meal preparation. The ideal candidate will have at least a Grade 10 education and possess strong cleaning skills, alongside good customer service. The role demands physical stamina and commitment to maintain high hygiene standards.
Under general supervision, the Support Services Worker (SSW) is responsible for thorough cleaning of staff, patient, resident, public, clinical, and office areas in AHS facilities. The role requires a high level of cleaning and disinfecting skills to ensure AHS facilities are safe and clean as determined by Provincial Standards, Guidelines, and Protocols. The SSW demonstrates respectfulness and good customer service while cleaning for departments, staff, patients, residents, the public, and coworkers. The position calls for compassion, a friendly demeanor, and polite interactions while working. The SSW can take direction, act swiftly, stay engaged with SSW tasks during shifts, and work independently while assisting the Environmental Services team as needed. The role supports a safe, inclusive workplace, follows a daily written routine, and remains flexible to reprioritize quickly when situations arise, reorganizing workloads to complete tasks. The SSW maintains a quick, consistent pace while delivering excellence in cleaning services and keeps all AHS operations confidential.
Accountability includes: high/light dusting; thorough cleaning of equipment, furniture, walls, vents, windows inside/out, ledges/edges, ceilings, doors/door handles/frames, bed frames/mattresses, dispensers, counters, waste/sharps containers, sinks, showers, tubs, toilets, etc. throughout AHS facilities. Collection and transportation of general, biomedical, and recycling waste; interior pest control. Performs floor maintenance (dry and wet mopping, floor scrubbing, stripping, waxing, shampooing) with manual and power cleaning equipment. Ensures facilities have necessary supplies in public, patient care, offices, and staff areas. Transports and arranges heavy furniture or equipment using dollies and carts as required. Complies with OH&S, WHMIS, work safety, IPC regulations, ACE, and Communicable Disease Assessment. Provides a clear criminal record/vulnerable sector check at your cost.
As a Support Service Worker, you will be responsible for providing a variety of cleaning and housekeeping duties. You will clean patient and other facility rooms, operate, clean and store housekeeping equipment, dispose of wastes, and perform duties to maintain a clean facility. You will also be responsible for the preparation, assembly, and service of safe, high-quality meals and menu items.
Required Qualifications: Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to walk and/or stand for the duration of the shift and perform repetitive physical movements.
Additional Required Qualifications: Frequent physical demands include lifting 25–50 pounds regularly, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, squatting, kneeling, standing and walking for much of the shift. Ability to climb ladders and use manual cleaning equipment (mops, dusters, cleaning cloths, toilet brushes, squeegees, scrapers) and power cleaning equipment (buffers, striping machines, auto scrubbers, burnishers, vacuums, carpet cleaners).
Preferred Qualifications: Education: Minimum Grade 10. General knowledge of cleaning techniques and methods; good customer service and interpersonal skills; basic housekeeping program is an asset; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
