Administer a variety of City bylaws and supervise the enforcement of bylaws. Interpret City Bylaws when required to ensure the effectiveness of enforcement capabilities. Supervise staff in the Bylaw Services Department. Assist Manager of Bylaw Services with Departmental planning. Monitor all bylaw enforcement activities and intervene on enforcement actions when required. Prioritize bylaw officer work and manage staff deployment and scheduling to meet operational requirements.
Work is performed according to established guidelines and procedures and is reviewed through discussions with Manager. Issues regarding enforcement policy which may lead to litigation are referred to Manager. Work is mainly self‑assigned, with regular tasks also assigned by the Manager, Bylaw Services. Independence over deployment and scheduling. Work within guidelines for responses but have control in determining the appropriate response when responding to complaints from the Public. Staffing issues are often, but not always, referred to Manager. Enforcement planning and strategy are sometimes referred to Manager.
